Ohio Plan to Improve Health Care Payment Model Submitted to CMS

Ohio’s State Model Innovation Plan for Health Care has been submitted to the federal government for consideration. The plan is the final step in the grant design process and is available for review on the Governor’s Office of Health Transformation website.

In February 2013, Ohio received a federal State Innovation Model (SIM) grant to design new health care payment models that financially reward better care instead of more care.

Over the past six months, the Governor’s Office of Health Transformation hosted over 100 health experts in more than 50 design meetings. The plan focuses on the patient-centered medical home care delivery model and an episode-based payment system. With submission of the plan, the state is now competing against other applicants for additional money to test payment models.
