Ohio Rule Changes Affect EMT, Paramedic Scope of Practice

Three amended rules become effective January 31, 2021

 

ANNOUNCEMENT

Ohio law authorizes state agencies to adopt, amend, or rescind rules in accordance with Chapter 119. of the Revised Code (RC). 

Three amended scope of practice rules were final filed with the Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review (JCARR) on November 20, 2020 and will become effective on January 1, 2021. 

Each amended rule can be viewed at The Register of Ohio Website by entering its eight-digit rule number:

                        Rule Number

                        4765-15-04      Emergency medical technician scope of practice.

                        4765-16-04      Advanced emergency medical technician scope of practice.

                        4765-17-03      Paramedic scope of practice.

The amended rules require the use of diagnostic waveform capnography in the presence of invasive airway management.
